D5277, 5277, 25127|
After eight years operating out of Trafford Park/Longsight 25127 moved to Toton in April 1972. One of the summer Saturday Toton duties was to cover the Nottingham - Llandudno, which is seen here with 25127 in charge on a gloriously overcast July 15th 1978.
The sixteen year five month career of D5277/25127 was spent allocated to a small number of London Midland Region depots.
Built: BR Derby Locomotive Works.
Boiler room grilles sheeted over.
Time between last Classified repair and withdrawal: ?? months.
Time between withdrawal and scrapping: 32 months.
D5277 was new to Nottingham (16A) on June 11th 1964. Further transfers were:

25127 was the 60th Class 25 withdrawn, one of seventeen retired during November 1980 and the 2nd to be retired of the original batch of Class 25s allocated to handle the ICI Tunstead - Northwich limestone trains.
After withdrawal 25127 was moved to Swindon Works on January 14th 1981 and broken up there by the end of June 1983.

Noted Derby Works November 1975.

During March D5255 & D7586 were transferred to Trafford Park (9E), presumably to be trialled on the limestone workings. D5255 was transferred back to Toton during April, but D7586 remained allocated to Trafford Park until January 1965 when it was briefly reallocated to the Nottingham Division, but returned to Trafford Park the same month. With the testing completed the decision was made to utilise the Sulzer Type 2s on the limestone trains. To accomplish this seven Type 2s would be allocated to Trafford Park (9E) shed. All the locomotives selected were virtually brand new and had been on allocation to Toton (D16) after delivery from the workshops. D7586 which had been one of the locomotives used in the trials remained at Trafford Park, perhaps an odd choice since the locomotive was boiler equipped. The remainder were D5274 - D5279 and arrived during June & July.
On June 27th a Derby (?) - Llandudno Town day excursion was worked out & back (?) by D5277 & D5279.
An unusual visitor to the London area were 5277 & 5212). Having arrived on March 15th with empty coaching stock from the north, they were borrowed by Willesden for a couple of days before returning north with a freight.
The cross-London workings still featured Class 25's on the trips to Hither Green. On June 20th & 21st 5277 & 7568 were noted on the Toton - Southfleet coal train.

25127 is a long way from its earlier haunts on the ICI stone trains, as it is seen here passing through Westbury on February 20th 1980, but still hauling crushed rock products in its train of Presflos.
Although 1980 ws the last year in service for 25127, it was able to obtain a good selection of passenger workings. On May 24th 25127 worked the 07.35 Nottingham - Llandudno Town and the 13.00 Llandudno Town - Nottingham. A week later on May 31st 25127 & 25219 worked the 08.02 Walsall - Yarmouth to Norwich returning with the 14.15 Yarmouth - Derby from Norwich. On July 12th the 08.35 Derby - Yarmouth to Norwich and the return 14.15 Yarmouth - Derby from Norwich (not the normal diagram) were worked by 25127 & 25170. The next day (13th) the same pair worked the 09.00 Derby - Skegness and the return 18.15 Skegness - Derby.
The Derby - Norwich - Yarmouth - Norwich - Walsall diagram was worked by 25127 & 25137 on August 16th. Four days later on August 20th Wolverhampton - Bridlington roundtrip (?) day excursion was worked by 25127 & 25121, a total of 380 passenger miles if the Class 25s worked throughout. This is believed to be 25127's last passenger working.
On October 3rd electric multiple unit 507012 was taken from Hall Road to Derby Research Center by 25127.
25127 was withdrawn on November 2nd 1980.
